Hell Week

After this week I remember why I dislike children. They are annoying creatures who choose not to listen or do what you say.  If we didn't supervise them, I think they would seriously eat each other. Is it so hard to get along for a few hours each day? The weekend could not come sooner.

Outing Adventure

What a long week its been.  Going to work from 8-4:30 is brutal. But the camp this week was pretty fun. I had to drive the 15 passenger van this week with 15 passengers. It was scary. What was even more nervewracking was driving that 15 passenger van with a trailer of 8 canoes behind you on windy back roads. Geez. Glad I don't have to do that very often. The canoe trip was probably my favorite day this week. Since I was in charge I got to be in a kayak and keeper of the whistle. I felt all powerful when I had to blow the whistle. But by the end of the day I realize how much pain my left arm is in.  I was hanging up the PFDs when I realized my left arm couldn't raise the hanger anymore. So I'm wrapped up for now. But its quite possible I have a stress fracture or a buckle fracture. Unfortunately its the weekend so there's nothing I can do about it till Monday. If only the kids knew how to canoe I wouldn't have had to paddle so much so hard. At one point I had to tow a canoe behind me for quite a ways because there were spiders in their boat and one of the boys had serious arachnophobia. It was pretty funny. He would NOT sit back down until that canoe was washed out.
Here's my campers at the Delaware Rock Gym in Bear. My coworkers are in the blue. We didn't get to go rock climbing. We could have paid for a day pass but we were enjoying our naps on those comfy pads too much.

Phone Art

This is what I typically do every Sunday in church. I use a toothpick to get the detail. I think my cell is more frequently used as a sketchbook than an actual phone. I rarely keep the drawings I do because they suck but every once in a while I'll actually make something I like.

Day Camp

I just finished up my first week of Day Camp.  We had 15 "Nature Explorers" this past week, ages 5-7. Nature Explorers was the theme for the week.  We learned about habitats: marshes, meadows, forests, and rivers, also learned about insects, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and etc. etc.  We had a pretty strict itinerary where we did something different every half hour. HA! We mostly played games because that's all they ever wanted to do (sharks and minnows was the most popular.)  We did a lot of crafts as well. I made this epic hop-scotch game. There were spaces where you had to put your hands down, lay your whole body down, balance your head, and what not.  Its funny watching such uncoordinated little people doing this. We also did a lot of hiking. Geez, might as well have been climbing a mountain according to some of these kids. I had to convince a kid at one point that I had the 'Fountain of Youth' water in my bottle (you know, from Pirates of the Caribbean.) I gave him a sip and he instantly reacted to my magic water and took off.
This week is "Outdoor Adventures I" with 11-14 years olds. Its gonna be a lot of fun. We'll be going tubing, canoeing, rock climbing, and other fun stuff. I hope its hotter on the days we go in the water. Last week I would bring a jacket cuz it was so cold in the mornings.

The Dark knight Rises

Whew ya. The first look at our new villain, Tom Hardy. I wouldn't want to follow up The Joker. He just can't be beat. But none the less, July 2012 couldn't come soon enough!

Bucket List Addition - Croatia, Plitvice Lakes

"These 16 blue-green lakes, hidden by thick vegetation and connected by hundreds of waterfalls, could be the set for the next Jurassic Park. For adventure as well as killer views, start at one of the lower lakes and work your way up following the sturdy wooden planks that turn what could be a treacherous trek into a fun hike. Take a detour along the 10-minute loop that leads to the region's tallest fall, 230-foot-high Veliki Slap ("Big Waterfall"), a breadth of streaming white water that collects in turquoise pools. While hiking, keep your eyes peeled for deer, wildcats, boars, wolves, and bears—a more likely sighting than a T. rex."

I would also like to visit Jurassic Park. Preferably with Sam Neil.

GodZILLA

There's so many great scenes in Arrested Development. But its quite possible that this might be my favorite.

August weather in June

Tomorrow's forecast: 97°, 70% humidity, mostly sunny.  I work from 8-4 tomorrow OUTSIDE...oh man. I'm glad we went over heat stroke in orientation today, in case I need someone to save my life. Of course my co-workers go on the canoe trip while I set up for day camp in the sweltering heat.  Speaking of which, I am now certified to be a canoe instructor from the American Red Cross for life! Training took 15 hours over 2 days. First day was in a bay (windy day and strong current made everything counter productive). But we sure were strong on Lums Pond where there was little to no current. Then we ended it all in Mckean's swimming pool. That was kinda funny. 2 of those canoes would equal the width of the pool basically.
I really am dreading tomorrow.
